Jara Beach Resort [JBR] is a new and a nice resort located at “Jara Beach Resort, Museyo Beach, Eleko, Lotu Street, Off Lekki Free Trade Zone Road, Lagos”. Its doors opened in the November of 2019.
Jara is owned and managed by an expat couple living in Nigeria. And the husband [Mark Slade] is a national of the United Kingdom.
Talking about their qualifications,
In terms of luxury,
Jara is a really nice place. It ranks higher than the vast majority of the resorts in Lagos. Although, I won’t consider Jara a good match for the likes of Jubilee Chalets.
JBR is a place I’ll confidently recommend, if you’re interested in any of the following —
- Spending your day at a beachside;
- Spending your night at a beachside;
- Hosting a business retreat at a beachside;
- Hosting a private party at a beachside;
- Hosting a wedding party at a beachside; and
- Taking/recording a professional photo/video shoot at a beachside.
If you’ll like to learn more about the resort, stick with me till the end of this content.
Visit package
To spend time at JBR, you’re going to have to buy “a visit package”. Those things are not officially called visit packages, but thinking about them like visit packages makes it easy to wrap your head around the complexity of the details.
The following are the visit packages sold at Jara Beach Resort, and you’re of course expected to choose whichever suits you best —
- The day visit package;
- The over-night stay package;
- The business retreat package;
- The private party visit package;
- The wedding package; and
- The professional photo/video shoot package.
Package 1: The day visit package
The day visit package [DVP], is a package that’s suitable for the people who’ll like to spend just the day at JRB.
When you buy this package, you’ll be allowed to have fun at the resort between 11:30 am and 5:30 pm.
The day visit package is an all-inclusive package. This means that, once you pay for it, you won’t have to further pay for other things like foods, drinks, games, swimming pool, Wi-Fi, etc.
The DVP costs N22,500, for a person who intends taking a non-alcoholic drink. If you’re the type who’ll prefer to take an alcoholic drink, N32,500 is instead what you’ll have to pay.
It is possible to bring other people along with you, if you’re willing to pay extra. And the following are the costs for bringing other people along —
TYPE OF PERSON | COST | |
1 | First two kids between 0 and 5 years old | Free |
2 | More kids between 0 and 5 years old | N12,600 / kid |
3 | Kids between 6 and 17 years old | N12,600 / kid |
4 | Other adults [who’ll take non-alcoholic drinks] | N22,500 / adult |
5 | Other adults [who’ll take alcoholic drinks] | N32,500 / adult |
6 | Nannies | N15,750 / nanny |
NOTE
A.
During some special seasons [e.g. Christmas, New year], the price for the day visit package gets slightly higher.
B.
I’ll recommend that you should make a reservation at least 2 days before the day you intend visiting. For instance, if you intend visiting on a Friday, you should make a reservation before the end of the Tuesday immediately before it.
C.
There is a limit to how many people can visit JBR per day [20 persons per day]. So to be among the 20 people who’ll be allowed in for that day you intend coming, consider buying your package as early as you can.
D.
For an adult who’ll prefer to take an alcoholic drink, your package will get you a common alcoholic drink [at no additional cost], but it’s further possible to get a more-expensive alcohol drink, if you don’t mind paying extra.
The following are the details of the more expensive alcohols available —
NAME | PRICE | |
1 | Brut champagne | N30,000 |
2 | Rose champagne | N35,000 |
3 | Hennessy VSOP | N40,000 |
4 | Premium gin | N25,000 |
5 | Premium red win | N15,000 |
6 | Premium rum | N25,000 |
7 | Premium vodka | N30,000 |
8 | Premium whiskey | N30,000 |
9 | Premium white wine | N15,000 |
Although,
You are required to make a reservation at least 2 days before your visit, this doesn’t necessarily apply to the expensive alcohols you may further wish to buy. All the other additional alcohols can be paid for when you are at the resort.
Package 2: The over-night stay package
The over-night stay package [OSP], as the name implies, is a package suitable for someone who’ll like to pass their night at JBR [1 pm — 11 am of the following day].
The OSP is an all-inclusive package.
There are 9 rooms available at the JBR. And to pass a night at any of these rooms, you’re required to make a reservation in advance. You’re expected to book at least 2 days before the day of your visit.
Accommodation types
There are two types of accommodation available at JBR — the standard room and the family room.
The standard room
The standard room is an accommodation type meant to be occupied by 1 or 2 persons.
There are a total of 5 standard rooms at Jara.
The standard rooms are all oceanfront accommodations.
In a standard room,
You’ll find the things you’ll expect to see in a good 4-star hotel accommodation. Being elaborate, you’ll find things like TV, Wi-Fi, shampoo, etc.
The cost of spending a night is N135,000, for a single person, for two people, the cost is N150,000.

Two-occupants rate
For the people who’ll be spending multiple nights, you’ll get discounts —
- 2 nights give a 5-per-cent discount;
- 3 nights give a 10-per-cent discount; and
- 4 nights or more give a 15-per-cent discount.
A standard room is ordinarily expected to be occupied by 2 adults at most, but JBR is willing to accommodate 2 additional kids between the ages of 0 and 5 [at no cost].
The family room
The family room is an accommodation type that’s suitable for a family that won’t find the standard room suitable.
There are a total of 4 family rooms.
Talking about the sleeping arrangement, there are going to be a king-size bed [double bed] and a 2-step bunk. The lower bed of the bunk is a “4 x 1-foot” bed, while the upper bed of the bunk is a “3 x 1-foot” bed.
A discount will be available on a family room, if you’ll be staying for multiple nights. The following are details about the discounts —
- 2 nights give a 5-per-cent discount;
- 3 nights give a 10-per-cent discount; and
- 4 nights and more give a 15-per-cent discount.
Note that,
All rooms
It is possible to rent out all the 9 rooms at Jara Beach Resort.
If you rent out all the rooms at JRB, you’ll be getting a discount.
For an all-room reservation,
For 1 or 2 nights, you’ll get a 10-per-cent discount on “the amount you’ll ordinarily have to pay without any discount already applied”. For a 3-or-more-nights reservation, you’ll get a 15-per-cent discount.
Not only is it possible to rent out all the rooms at Jara, it is further possible to pay JBR to have the whole resort exclusively to yourself, for the day(s) you’ll spend. One of the things that this implies is that, if you pay for exclusivity, no “day visit package” will be sold for the day(s) you paid for.
Driver and nanny
If you’ll like your driver and/or nanny to come along but can’t afford to cough out a lot of cash for their accommodation, JBR has something for you. JBR allows the driver and/or the nanny of a customer to stay at its dedicated staff quarters, if the customer is willing to pay a little extra.
N15,000 is the amount needed to have your driver stay at Jara’s dedicated staff quarters.
Allowing a driver to stay at the staff quarters only means that, a sleeping space as well as other basic things will be provided to the driver. When it comes to feeding, this will have to be paid for.
6 pm is the time a driver will be allowed into the staff quarters, and by 9 am, they are expected to have exited the quarters.
Truly,
JBR can offer a less-expensive accommodation for a customer’s driver, but this isn’t guaranteed to be always available, as this accommodation is subject to availability.
A customer’s nanny can be allowed to stay at Jara’s staff quarters, if the customer is willing to pay an additional N30,000.
While both a driver and a nanny can be allowed to stay at the quarters, a nanny will be treated more like a customer, compared to a driver.
Truly,
JBR can offer a less-expensive accommodation for a customer’s nanny, but this isn’t guaranteed to be always available, as this accommodation is subject to availability.
Early check-in and late check-out
The standard check-in time at Jara Beach Resort is 1 pm, while the standard check-out time 11 am. However, it’s possible to check in earlier and/or check out late than you ordinarily should.
If you’re willing to pay an additional 35-per-cent of what your accommodation costs, you can be allowed to check-in as early as 9 am [instead of 1 pm].
Or,
If checking out late [by as late as 4 pm, instead of 11 am] is what you’ll prefer, you can also get that, by paying an additional 35-per-cent of your accommodation cost.
However,
Note that, early check-ins and late check-outs are subject to availability. In other words, it’s only a day before your arrival that you can confirm whether an early check-in and/or a late check-out will be available.
Foods and drinks
As stated above,
Whatever you pay covers your feeding [3 square meals/day], during your time at the resort.
And trust me,
The foods offered at Jara are among the most delicious I’ve ever tasted from any Lagos resort. This doesn’t come as a surprise since the head chef at JBR is a highly-experienced chef who has specialized in African, Asian, French, Italian, Mediterranean, and Mexican cuisines for several years.
As regards hygiene,
I believe there’s nothing to worry about, because not only are they hygienic at the resort, also I don’t know of anyone who has ever had any stomach upset from eating their foods.
Your payment further covers the cost of drinks. You’ll be offered something soft, but for the people who prefer alcohols, you’ll of course be offered something alcoholic.
If the alcohol given to you isn’t satisfactory and you’ll like something nicer, this won’t be a problem, if you’re also willing to pay extra.
The following are the more expensive alcohols you can get, as well as their prices —
NAME | PRICE | |
1 | Brut champagne | N30,000 |
2 | Rose champagne | N35,000 |
3 | Hennessy VSOP | N40,000 |

5 | Premium red wine | N15,000 |
6 | Premium rum | N25,000 |
7 | Premium vodka | N30,000 |
8 | Premium whiskey | N30,000 |
9 | Premium white wine | N15,000 |

Children
Jara Beach Resort isn’t just open to people of all ages, the resort is also one of the very few in Nigeria where there are arrangements to make the stay of children more comfortable.
For instance —
1.
If you come with a baby between the ages of 0 and 5, you can get a bath rub, a cot, and a highchair [for meal times] for the baby. Although, getting these things are subject to availability.
2.
While the rooms at JRB will be devoid of mosquitoes, when you arrive, it isn’t impossible for them to slip in, when you’re opening the door.
And if you’ll like to further protect your baby from these insects, there are mosquito nets available.
Car service
And the following should give an idea about how much that will cost you —
VEHICLE TYPE | CAPACITY | MAINLAND LAGOS | MAINLAND LAGOS [TO AND FRO] | ISLAND LAGOS | ISLAND [TO AND FRO]
1 | Saloon | 3 | N35,000 | N65,000 | N30,000 | N55,000 |

I should add that,
Car service also demands making a reservation before the day you intend coming.
The service is subject to availability and requires prior booking and payment.
Also note that,
If you change the date of your car reservation at a time later than 72 hours after reservation, expect to be charged.
Furthermore,
The total cancellation of a car service also attracts some charges.
Things to note
Power supply isn’t 24/7 in the truest sense
Jara Beach Resort is located at Museyo Beach, a place where there is no public power supply.
The power supply at the resort is instead provided by generators and batteries [charged by solar panels].
And to avoid spending too much on providing power, 24/7 power supply applies to only small electronics like phones, laptops, lights, etc.
Big appliances like AC, water heater, etc only get power supply between 5 pm and 7:30 pm and between 10 pm and 10 am.
Package 3: The business retreat package
Jara Beach Resort was designed to be a place where business retreats can be hosted.
The business retreat package [BRP] offered at JBR is of two types — the day package and the over-night package.
The day package involves using the premises and the outdoor facilities between 11:30 am and 5:30 am.
And the following is the information you’ll need about the cost —
NO OF PEOPLE | NON-EXCLUSIVE RETREAT | EXCLUSIVE RETREAT
1 | 1 – 19 | N500,000 | N750,000 |
2 | 20 – 39 | N700,000 | N1 million |
3 | 40 and above | N900,000 | N1.2 million |
You should know that,
The prices mentioned above cover the cost of the refreshments all members of your team will need.
As for “the over-night business retreat package”, the details are the same as those of the “the over-night stay package [OSP]” which was discussed above.
Package 4: The private party visit package
The private party visit package [PVP] is meant for private parties of not more than 50 people.
The package is similar to that of the business retreat package, so check the business retreat package for the details.
Package 5: The wedding package
Jara Beach Resort is an ideal place for wedding ceremonies.
The staffs at the resort are professional enough to help ensure you will have a great wedding at Jara.
The beach in front of the resort also makes it possible to have an amazing beach wedding.
For details about the cost of hosting a wedding here, I’ll recommend checking their official website and speaking to someone at the resort.
Package 6: The professional photo/video shoot package
Pictures and videos are allowed to be taken with phone cameras, at no cost, but professional pictures and videos require paying.
To make a further enquiry, you’re required to send a mail to info@jarabeachresort.com.
In the mail,
Make sure that you provide information like —
- The number of people that will be present, including the photographer, etc;
- The day(s) you’ll prefer to come;
- The time you’ll prefer;
- Details about the foods and drinks you may need; and
- Other important details, e.g. the artist, details of the song, actors, the nature of the video.
Activities and facilities
Beach soccer
Just like every other standard resort, Jara Beach Resort has fun activities and facilities you can enjoy during your stay.
And one of the activities available is beach soccer.
Although,
There are no goalposts, you should still have a fun time playing this game.
There is no need to pay for this game. Whatever package you buy already covers the cost of the game.
Table tennis
Table tennis is another game available at the resort.
At JBR,
You’ll find a standard ping pong table that you, friends, and family can play with.
And just like the game mentioned above, this game doesn’t require paying any additional fee.
Horse riding
If you’re the kind who loves horse riding, engaging in this activity at JBR won’t be a problem.
The resort itself doesn’t own horses, rather some third-parties are the providers of horses.
If you’ve never ridden on a horse, you should really consider this activity. It isn’t as scary as you probably think.
Quad bikes
Quad bike riding is another activity available.
To rent a quad bike for half a day, you’ll be required to pay a sum of N25,000.
And for a full-day rent, N50,000 is what you’ll have to pay.
Swimming
There is a swimming pool at JBR.
The pool is not the biggest I’ve seen, but it’s big enough for anyone to have a great time.
And as regards hygiene,
The pool is well-maintained, so you don’t have to worry about getting an infection from it.
Swimming is a free activity, unlike quad bike riding.
Petanque
Petanque is a very interesting game, especially for reserved and introverted people.
However,
It’s not a popular game in Nigeria, so I won’t be surprised if you’re coming across it for the first time.
Basically,
This game involves throwing balls [by two different teams], with the intention of getting their balls as close as possible to a special ball called the jack.
There are going to be multiple rounds, and the team which has the closest ball to the jack for a particular round wins that round.
You can watch a YouTube video about the game, to understand it better.
Petanque is a free activity, so even if you can’t afford to spend extra, you should still be able to engage in it.
Sandpit
Once again,
Jara Beach is really interested in having kids around as well.
And if you’ll be coming with kids, there are sandpits available for them to play in.
The pits are devoid of harmful objects.
Firepit
Sitting around a firepit, with family and friends, and socializing, is a thing I find very enjoyable.
And if you also love this, I’m glad to mention that this is one of the activities you can engage in at JBR.
The firepit gets lighted, and you can all sit around it and socialize.
I don’t know exactly what time the pit gets put out, but I know it’s nothing earlier than 11:30 pm.
Cabana
Cabana is one of the things available at Jara.
This means that,
If you’re not interested in moving about and talking, you can just simply lie down on the beach, and have some fun.
Opening days & hours
Under normal circumstances,
Jara Beach Resort is open to people on all the 365 [or 366 days] of a year.
However,
Other things to know
You’ll be required to sign an agreement
While the most important things to know are what I’ve provided above, there are some other things you should know.
And one of these things in question is that, before you’re allowed to start enjoying yourself, you’ll have to sign an agreement.
The agreement is just to ensure you comply with their terms of the resort.
And don’t worry it’s a short document, so under a few minutes, you should be done going through it.
Most payments are non-refundable
Another thing you should note is that, most payments are non-refundable.
Even for those that are refundable, you won’t be refunded the whole amount you paid.
In short,
Before making any payment, be sure you’re certain of what you’re doing.
If you aren’t sure about something, try to contact them for clarification.
There is a space for workout
While JRB doesn’t have a gym, it’s possible to have workouts that don’t require gym equipment.
To have your workouts,
There is a spacious gazebo that you can use.
JBR takes COVID 19 seriously
I know of people who won’t go to places where COVID 19 isn’t taken seriously. And if you’re one of such people, I can assure you that you have nothing to worry about.
At Jara,
You’ll not only find items like hand sanitizers and hand-washing facilities, the resort also observes the protocols recommended by the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government.
In short,
There’s nothing to worry about, when it comes to COVID 19.
Parking spaces are available
If you’re coming with a single car, parking your car won’t be a problem.
However,
If you are hosting an event and there are going to be a lot of cars, only a handful of people will be able to park their cars within the premises.
All payments are cashless
Another thing worthwhile knowing is that all payments you’re going to make will be cashless. So don’t bring cash along, with the intention of spending using it for payment.
And as for those who wonder what types of cashless payment are allowed, payments via POS and bank transfers are what are available. But on the website, you can pay with your card through Paystack.
Some important terms
Indiscriminate smoking isn’t allowed
Jara Beach Resort has its terms, and there are some of them I feel are very important to mention in this content.
And one of these terms worthy of mentioning is that of indiscriminate smoking not being allowed. If you’ll like to smoke, there are places where you can. Failing to restrict your smoking to these designated places, would attract a fine of N100,000.
I should also add that even though smoking is allowed, it is strictly prohibited to smoke illegal things.
The smoking of illegal things will only result into you getting handed over to the authorities.
Unusually large items aren’t allowed
Another thing you should know is that very large items won’t be allowed at the resort.
I don’t know exactly how large a thing can be, for you to be prevented from getting in. But to avoid issues, I’ll recommend that you come with only things you can easily carry.
Pets aren’t allowed
Just like many places in Lagos, pets are not allowed at Jara Beach Resort.
Not even small harmless pets will be allowed.
However,
People who make use of guide dogs will be allowed. And for such people, it’s important to ensure that the guide dog won’t be a danger to other people or disturb the peace of the resort.

Closing
Jara Beach Resort is a truly nice resort.
As stated above,
It is much better than many other resorts in Lagos.
But once again, when I say JRB is a nice place, I’m not comparing it to the likes of Jubilee Chalets.
