Eleko Beach, Lagos : [ Pictures & Honest Review]

0 2 - Eleko Beach, Lagos : [ Pictures & Honest Review]

Eleko Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Lagos.

The beach has been around since 1989.

The reasons behind its popularity are mainly —

(i) it’s age; and (ii) how cheap it is.

And if you’ve been wondering whether this place is a beach worthwhile of vising, the answer is “Yes”.

However,

Not only will I recommend visiting the place, but also, I’ll provide you with all the important information you should know.

And there we go.

Things worthwhile of explicitly stating

You can buy and eat fresh fishes and prawns

There are many nice things about Eleko Beach, and one of these things is that, it’s easy and cheap to get fresh fishes and prawns at the beach.

As a person who takes their health seriously, fresh things are things I love eating.

And the fact that fresh aquatic foods are easy to get at Eleko Beach is one of the reasons why I do choose it over many other beaches in Lagos.

In short,

If you’re wondering which to choose, among Eleko and some other beaches, and you’re also very serious about your health, you should consider the fact that you can find fresh aquatic foods at Eleko.

The beach has no hotel (or resort) within it

Some people go to beaches to just spend some hours, and we have those who go there to spend days.

If you’re one of those who’ll like to spend days at Eleko beach, you should note that this may be impossible, as there are no hotels or resorts within the Beach at the time of writing this content.

In other words,

To get the best beachside vacation experience, you may want to consider other places like Atican Beach.

However,

If you insist on having your beachside vacation at Eleko, you may have to consider lodging at a nearby hotel or resort, like Chaka.

There are standard restaurants and bars

Having experienced food poisonings, from eating foods prepared by local food vendors, one of the things I now look for, before visiting a beach, is whether there are standard restaurants there.

And if you’re also someone who wonders the same, the answer is “Yes”.

There are standard restaurants and bars at the beach, and never have I experienced any issue from eating the foods and drinks bought at these places.

Parking spaces are available

Parking spaces are things you’ll find at Eleko Beach.

The place has a quite large parking ground.

And regardless of how busy the place is, you should find a suitable place to park your car.

As regards whether you’ll have to pay for a parking ticket, to park your car, the answer is “No”.

Once you pay the entrance fee, you don’t have to pay any additional amount for parking.

However,

Note that you may find touts who’ll want to charge you for parking space; if you find yourself in such a situation, just report them to the people at the gate.

Horses riding is available

If you wonder whether horse riding is available, the answer is “Yes”.

However,

One thing you should note is that most of the horse owners are dubious people.

In other words,

Before giving them any money, make sure you are both clear about the terms. And usually, the cost per ride is N300.

The beach is quite neat

One of the things I find worthwhile explicitly stating about Eleko is that it is a neat beach.

Not all beaches in Lagos are neat, so if the neatness of a beach matters a lot to you, you should be aware of Eleko’s neatness.

However,

Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean there won’t be some days when you’ll find dirt on the beach.

Tents are available

If you wonder whether tents are available, the answer is “Yes”.

So,

If you’ll love to spend time at the beach during hours when the sun will be high, this shouldn’t be a problem, even if you don’t come along with a tent.

However,

Note that using a tent is not free.

The cost of using a tent is N10,000.

Entrance fees

The fee for getting into Eleko Beach is N500 per head.

This price is fixed, regardless of age or period.

Opening days and hours

Eleko,

Like most beaches, is ordinarily open on all the 365 (or 366 days) of a year.

So regardless of how busy you are, you should be able to visit the beach at least once in a year.

And as regards opening hours, the beach is claimed to be open for all the 24 hours of every day.

However,

I don’t know how true this is, because the management of the place doesn’t seem serious enough to be capable of making that possible.

But let’s assume the beach is truly open 24 hours daily, I won’t ever recommend being present on the beach at dark hours.

Not only does the beach lack proper security, but it is also full of touts, so the chances of finding your lives in a life-threatening situation are quite high, especially for ladies.

In short,

Even though the beach is claimed to be open for 24 hours daily, you should only be present on the beach between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm.

What’s the best time to visit?

The best time to visit Eleko depends majorly on what type of experience you’ll like.

If you’ll like a very peaceful experience, you should come on a weekday.

Also, avoid coming on festive days and holidays.

As for the people who’ll prefer coming on days when the beach will be very lively, consider coming on — (i) a weekend day, (ii) a festive day, or (iii) a holiday.

What type of dress can I put on?

For guys,

I’ll suggest coming in a short and a shirt.

And as for ladies,

I’ll suggest not coming in things as revealing as bikinis. In a place like Eleko, putting on a bikini will attract a lot of attention; in fact, you may experience harassment from touts.

So when coming (for ladies), put on something that’s comfortable, but at the same time not too revealing.

Some things you should note

The staffs are under-trained

When coming to Eleko Beach, one of the things you should note is that most of the staff there are under-trained.

Many of them are rude, a thing that will annoy some people greatly.

In short,

If you find rudeness highly irritating, you may want to avoid a place like Eleko.

And,

Oh, forget about reporting them. Eleko has very poor management. So even if you report the staff, nothing will happen.

Final words

If you are someone or a group of people trying to have a getaway, and wondering whether Eleko is the best good place to go, I will ask you to consider other places like Apapa Amusement Park, Atican Beach, or Sencillo.

However,

If you’re specifically interested in Eleko, but wondering whether the place is worthwhile going to, you should feel free to spend your time at the beach.
